Caleb Williams has struggled in his first two NFL games with the Chicago Bears. Despite winning his debut, Williams failed to lead his offense to the endzone in a 24-17 victory.

Week 2 saw a similar output as Chicago managed just 13 points in a loss to the Texans. Williams threw a pair of interceptions in the defeat.

After the game, the father of one of his wide receivers posted a contextless jab at the passer.

A clip of Rome Odunze running wide open in the endzone was loaded to X. For one reason or another, Williams couldn’t find Odunze despite there being no defenders in the area.

It’s created a bit of drama on social media with the Bears gearing up for Game 3.

The post was not in direct response to any person in particular. It had no caption. It just showed Odunze running his route.

What did it mean?!

Some in the comments section seem to have an idea.

The No. 1 overall pick has landed plenty of criticism for his poor start as a pro. Entering the year with high hopes, Williams has yet to fulfill lofty, and maybe unattainable, expectations.

That said, some are placing blame elsewhere in terms of the offensive struggles.

Dan Orlovsky, for example, took to X to voice his assessment of the Bears’ rookies to this point. He said Rome Odunze hasn’t given his quarterback enough easy opportunities.

The Bears and Caleb are gonna have to get comfortable giving Rome more “covered” opportunities

Rome isn’t getting open at this level right now—

Caleb will have to get comfortable throwing him some 50/50 balls.

Was this what James Odunze was responding to? The timing lines up!

Orlovsky’s post came a little after 3 PM on Wednesday. Odunze’s post was made at 6 PM the same day.

Coincidence?! Maybe not!

James Odunze also reposted some of his son’s “get-open” stats after the game. He says Rome isn’t the problem!

Whether this causes any unnecessary strife inside the Chicago Bears locker room is yet to be seen. It’s certainly not the best look for those with an outside view.

*Update: James Odunze added context!*

Shortly after this post was published, Rome Odunze’s father clarified his intentions. He says he didn’t mean to throw shade at Caleb Williams. His post was in direct response to Dan Orlovsky’s comment.

For clarification, this tweet was just about Dan Orlovsky nonsense statement. It’s not about anything or anybody else. FULL STOP.
