Rudy Gobert has more money than most of us can ever dream of having. According to Sportrac, he has made over $210 million in his NBA career so far.

Apparently, he doesn’t mind losing some of it due to fines handed out by the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver. After being fined $100,000 for making a money gesture after a call he disagreed with in March, the Frenchman did it again late in Sunday’s Western Conference Semifinals loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The first time that Gobert did the money sign was on March 8 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. One of the officials in that game was the controversial Scott Foster, and that’s who Rudy Gobert thought made a bad call that caused him to use the gesture the first time.

Foster infamously made 134 phone calls in a seven month span in 2006 and 2007 to disgraced former NBA official and convicted game-fixer, Tim Donaghy. It would be unfair to claim that Foster has ever or is currently fixing games. But, that connection to Donaghy has followed him ever since, and a 2023 survey of NBA players named him the worst ref in the league.

Naturally, Foster was on of the officials in Sunday night’s game. And, Rudy Gobert took issue with a call late in the fourth quarter, and may have earned himself another fine.

Rudy Gobert can surely afford whatever fine is handed down. But, I wonder if the amount will rise this time.

Gobert, who missed Game 2 of the series due to the birth of his first child, and the Timberwolves lost Game 4, 115-107. The series is now tied up at 2-2 heading back to Denver. Neither team has won a home game yet in the series.
