Former starting quarterback Russell Wilson potentially put his team at risk of NFL punishment with a recent admission. The passer revealed hidden intel while addressing his retirement plans.
His failure to disclose said information is now being put under the spotlight. Were the New York Giants compliant?
Wilson started the first three games of the year for the franchise, going 0-3 under center. He threw for less than 170 yards in two of those outings, forcing Brian Daboll to bench him for rookie Jaxson Dart.
Was Russell Wilson’s play the only contributing factor?
That question is now being asked after a recent revelation. The signal caller admitted to being hurt ahead of a Week 2 matchup vs. rival Dallas.
Wilson said he tore his hamstring in the days leading up to the contest. He was not found on the injury report.
The quarterback was recently asked about a potential retirement following a string of disappointing seasons. He says he has no desire to hang it up.
“I’m not blinking. I know [what] I’m capable of. I think I showed that in Dallas, and I want to be able to do that again, you know, and just be ready to rock and roll, and be as healthy as possible and be ready to play ball.”

He later opened up on an injury that was not previously disclosed.

Wilson says he tore his hamstring (Grade 2) on the final play of a Friday practice before facing the Cowboys. He kept the injury to himself, even going to the Dallas Mavericks’ training facility to get treatment rather than reveal it to the organization.
The setback did not appear to hamper his play much as he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. Still, he did admit to being less than 100%.

He likely leaked the intel as a way of preserving his future with another team in 2026. He can blame some of his inconsistent play on the injury when searching for a new home this offseason.
Unfortunately, he’s now put his current team under fire.
The Giants can be punished – if they knew about hamstring tear.
According to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, an investigation and fine could follow the admission. The insider referenced the NFL’s policy as it relates to injury disclosure.
That policy largely revolves around sports gambling as bettors seek as much prevalent pregame information as necessary before making their informed predictions.
Those injury reports also prevent teams from gaining an unfair advantage. In either case, transparency is key.
The policy requires that teams provide credible, accurate, and specific information about injured players to the league office, their opponents, local and national media, and the league’s broadcast partners each week during the regular season and postseason.

Russell Wilson was anything but. His withholding puts the Giants at risk. He attempted to shield the organization from punishment after the fact.

So long as the NFL determines that New York was unaware of the injury, they should be in the clear. Wilson insists they had no knowledge. He simply went rogue.
His admission, however, opens the door for doubt. It will be interesting to see if anything comes from what should be an imminent investigation.
