Russell Wilson’s teammates are reacting to the news of his benching.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Denver Broncos stunned the NFL world when they announced they were benching Wilson for the rest of the season while still technically in the playoff hunt.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton says he made the move to get a “spark offensively,” while Wilson’s camp claims he got benched because he refused to rework his contract.
Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy spoke with the media after Wilson’s benching and said the whole locker room was surprised by the news.
“It was a surprise to everybody in our locker room.” … “He (Payton) just told us out of nowhere. So, I was pretty surprised having Russ our starting the quarterback the whole year, then the last 2 games, being a switch.“

Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey also talked about the team’s mood after their starting QB got benched.
“Obviously, sucks. It’s a weird day,” McGlinchey said. “It’s obviously something that I wasn’t necessarily expecting, but you’ve got to believe in what the coaching staff believes in, and what Sean’s doing.”
