The Folsom Bulldogs beat Gran Union in California high school football action over the weekend to kick off the new season. Five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons shined in his debut.

Folsom won the game in a blowout. It made the Pacers’ look foolish following some pregame trash talk.

The game was the first for each side in the 2025 season. Grant hosted the contest in Sacramento, about a half-hour outside of Folsom.

The Bulldogs are considered a Top 10 team in the state of California. They entered as the favorite, headlined by their star quarterback.

The Pacers, ranked 22nd in the state rankings, boasted confidence, though. It showed as soon as the players took the field.

High school football team’s pregame taunt backfires.

Grant Union was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct before the game even got started. Trash talking commenced before the opening kick.

That outlook continued into the contest.

It was a physical game!

Folsom QB Ryder Lyons embarrassed Grant Union.

The five-star passer threw for more than 400 yards on 31-37 passing. He connected on four touchdowns and ran for another.

The performance showed why he was so heavily recruited by major college programs throughout the country. Ultimately, he settled on BYU over schools like USC, Michigan, and Oregon.

Lyons led Folsom to a 51-13 victory. Grant Union couldn’t compete.

It made the high school look extremely foolish following the pregame shenanigans. Folsom handed them a second “L” after that embarrassing unsportsmanlike act.
