Cam Hutson was born and raised in East Lansing. The freshman college basketball player at Saint Louis hates Michigan as a result of his upbringing.

He will get the chance to play against the Wolverines on Saturday!

Hutson averages just 5.3 minutes per game during his first season of college basketball with 1.8 points on 35.7% shooting. That did not stop him from talking a big game.

Cam Hutson hates Michigan.

Hutson was rated as a three-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2025. He was rated as one of the top-50 players at his position and one of the top-five players in the state of Michigan.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound small forward played for East Lansing High School, which is located approximately one mile north of the campus of Michigan State University. The Trojans won their fist state championship in 67 behind a game-high 20 points from Hutson last season.

Now 12 months later, Cam Hutson gets an opportunity to win another state championship. Kind of. Not really.

Hutson committed to Saint Louis over 12 other offers from schools like Loyola, Illinois State, Akron, Miami (Oh), and Toledo. The Bilikins will play the Wolverines during the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday after their win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday.

Can Saint Louis back up the trash talk at March Madness?

When asked about the upcoming matchup between No. 9-seed Saint Louis and No. 1-seed Michigan, Cam Hutson gave a very candid response about his expectations.

Having grown up in the heart of Michigan State country, he does not like Michigan. His father, Andre Hutson, also played at Michigan State from 1997-2001 and won a national title.

They bleed green and white. They hate maize and blue.

With that in mind, Hutson would like to “smack” the Wolverines worse than the Bilikins smacked the Bulldogs. Those weren’t his exact words…

Michigan fans took his comments and ran with them. They found it surprising that someone who played only three minutes during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. That’s a lot of talk for a bench warmer. He gave his opponent bulletin board material for no reason.

I actually agree with the Wolverines fanbase to a certain extent.

Hutson provided his opponent with extra motivation whether he intended to or not. I am of the opinion that it is better to let your play do the talking at this point in the season.

However, his comments were not egregious!

Hutson did not say anything personal. Nor did he say Saint Louis is going to smack Michigan like it did Georgia. He said he hopes. That is a very big difference. It was not a direct shot.

Even if that is true, the Wolverines will twist his comments in their favor. Better to stay quiet.
