Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is adding insult to the injury of his departure from the New York Giants. Not only has Barkley had an incredible first season with the Birds, but he’s also now trolling his former team in advertisements.
In a shrewd piece of advertising synergy, Saquon Barkley has partnered with the sleep-aid brand Unisom and released a commercial in which he takes a subtle shot at New York Giants owner John Mara.
Barkley’s commercial is a reference to the fact that Giants owner John Mara was caught on camera saying “I’ll have a tough time sleeping if Saquon goes to Philadelphia,” during an episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks.
Barkley, of course, not only decided to leave the Giants to sign with the Eagles (on a 3-year, $37.75M deal) but has since been a revelation.

In his first 16 games as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Saquon Barkley has had 345 carries for 2,005 yards and has scored 15 touchdowns. He also has 33 catches for has 278 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the fact that Barkley needs just 101 rushing yards to break Eric Dickerson’s NFL single-season record of 2,105 yards, the Eagles will reportedly not play the Pro Bowl running back in the final game of the season in order to rest up for the playoffs the following week, as the Eagles have already clinched the NFC’s #2 seed.
Barkley, 27 years old, was drafted by the Giants out of Penn State University with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Barkley was awarded Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018 and was named to two Pro Bowls during his time with the Giants (in 2018 and 2022).
