Y’all ever prepared for a big round of golf by stretching in a jail cell?

No? Yeah, me either.

But world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler did just that following his bizarre arrest just prior to round two of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Scheffler spoke with members of the media following an impressive 5-under, 66 in the second round, detailing a harrowing experience that saw him end up behind bars.

“I feel like my head’s still spinning. I can’t really explain what happened this morning,” he said. “I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. That was a first for me.

“That was part of my warm up. I was just sitting there waiting and I started going through my warmup. I thought there was a chance I may be able to still come out here and play.”

Scheffler’s arrest came after an alleged altercation with a police officer who was directing traffic near the course following a fatal accident.

But it doesn’t sound like Scheffler’s jail experience was that bad.

“When I was sitting in like the holding cell or whatever, there was a TV there and I could see myself on TV on ESPN,” he said. “‘Get Up’ was so. So in the corner it showed the time and it said they were delayed, and I was kind of thinking about my tee time. I was like ‘well, maybe I could be able to get out.'”

Oddly enough, Scheffler would not be the first golfer to win a major after being arrested at the tournament. Legendary Grand Slam winner Bobby Jones previously did the same at the British Open.
