Scottie Scheffler, the #1 golfer in the world who is winning at a level we haven’t seen since Tiger Woods, just picked up a massive win off the course. As it turns out, Scottie Scheffler owns a professional sport fishing team, the Texas Lone Stars Angling Club, and they just won the first season of the Sport Fishing Championship.

This is a huge W for Scottie Scheffler’s fishing team after the Texas Lone Stars Angling Club started the inaugural Sport Fishing Championship season by back-to-back last place finishes. But they turned it around from there!

Scottie Scheffler’s Fishing Team Wins Sport Fishing Championship Playoffs In Cabo

Speaking after the enormous win, Scottie Scheffler praised his team’s resilience. The Texas Lone Stars Angling Club and world #1 golfer said “I could not be more proud of the club for winning the season championship in our inaugural year of competition.”

Scheffler added “it is a testament to their talent and determination to overcome the pressure of the moment, and for their resilience to overcome a tough start to the season to even be in the hunt. There’s no ‘quit’ in this team.”

The team’s slow start could be attributed to mechanical failure. Saltwater is, after all, extremely corrosive and sport fishing is arguably the most expensive hobby any man can have. Waaaaayyyyy more expensive than golf at the high end when boats cost several million dollars, the best have unlimited price tags, equipment failure is inevitable, and you have to pay an army of full-time employees to constantly maintain everything. But hey, Scottie Scheffler knows what he’s doing!

How the season went

Through six tournaments, Scottie Scheffler’s fishing team finished 2nd in the Gulf Division with 15,800 points, or 4,000 points behind Third Coast Renegades Angling Club.

But that 2nd place finish through 6 tournaments, after finishing dead last in the first two tournaments, was enough to get Scottie Scheffler’s fishing team into the Zane Grey Championship Playoff. Once in the playoffs the Texas Lone Stars Angling Club finished with 4,550 Points, or 150 more points than the second place Third Coast Renegades Angling Club, to win the inaugural season of the Sport Fishing Championship, according to their press release.

During the two-day playoffs in Cabo, Scottie’s fishing team released 41 striped marlin and 1 blue marlinfish. Now THAT is what you call ‘catching’ and not ‘fishing.’ Those are the kinds of days where you take a kid fishing and get them hooked for life.

In total, teams released 165 billfish during the two-day playoffs in Cabo where striped marlin fishing is PEAKING this time of year.

Congrats to Scottie Scheffler and his fishing team on a hard-earned title!
