Scottie Scheffler Starts His 2024 PGA Championship With Incredible Hole-Out In First Hole Since Birth Of Son

There’s no arguing that Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world right now. The number-one ranked player in the world dominated at The Masters last month, and entered the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Country Club in Louisville as the pretty big favorite.

Xander Schauffele went out and fired a course-record 62 (-9) to set the pace in the early wave during Thursday’s first round. Scottie Scheffler didn’t waste any time cutting into that lead.

After hitting his drive on the right side of the fairway at the first hole, he had 167 yards left to the hole and took dead aim. The result was something that not even Scottie Scheffler could’ve dreamt of. Take a look.

How about a one-hop dunk to start the tournament?  Some of these fairway hole-outs can be a little lucky that the hole got in the way of a shot that would’ve ended up rolling out a good bit. But, judging by that bounce, even if it didn’t go in, that looked like it was going to be a tap-in birdie to start his round. It was a ridiculous iron shot from the best ball-striker in the world.

And, to make things sweeter for Scottie Scheffler, that was the first hole of competitive golf he had played since the birth of his first child, a son, that his wife Meredith gave birth to on May 8.

He’s got a long way to go this week to catch Xander Schauffele, and the leaderboard is stacked with big names right now. But, can you imagine a better start to a major championship? When you’re playing well, you’re playing well.
