There should be plenty of drama on the course of the PGA Championship this week, but it’s hard to imagine it will rival what we were treated to off of it last year after Scottie Scheffler was arrested during the tournament. He’s made it pretty clear he wants to put that incident behind him, but it sure seems like he went out of his way to make light of it with the outfit he wore during Wednesday’s practice round.

Xander Schauffele may have walked away with the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the first major of his career when the PGA Championship headed to Valhalla last year, but his victory was firmly overshadowed by what transpired a couple of days before he clinched it.

As virtually every golf fan in existence is aware, things took a wild turn ahead of Friday’s round when Scottie Scheffler was arrested after he was accused of dragging a member of the Louisville Metro Police Department with his car during an incident that unfolded as he was arriving at the course.

Scheffler was able to make the tee time that was pushed back to accommodate the booking process where he posed for a mugshot while clad in an orange jumpsuit, and he ultimately finished in a tie for eighth.

The charges he was initially facing were eventually dropped after the prosecutor who reviewed the evidence determined it was “a big misunderstanding,” and he declined to pursue any legal action against the arresting officer who filed a police report that noted the $80 pants he was rocking at the time were “damaged beyond repair.”

Scheffler acknowledged the emotional toll the ordeal took on him a couple of months later while making it clear he wants to put it in the past, but as Claire Rodgers notes, he certainly appeared to reference his mugshot with the orange shirt he decided to rock during Wednesday’s practice round at Quail Hollow ahead of the PGA Championship—which is the first time he’s sported that particular hue at a tournament since his arrest.

This isn’t the first time Scheffler has had some fun at his own expense at a major this year, as he also served ravioli at the dinner he hosted at The Masters after suffering an injury while trying to make some during the holiday season.
