Close friends Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim exchanged a heat moment on Thursday during the opening session of the 2024 Presidents Cup.

Scheffler, partnered with Russell Henley for Team USA, squared off with the International team of Kim and South Korean countryman Sungjae Im in the four-ball session.

Kim made a long birdie putt on Par-3 7th hole that looked like it may win the hole and let a roar. But Scheffler answered with a long putt of his own to halve the hole, before turning to Kim and yelling “what was that?!”

It seemed all in good fun, and Kim laughed it off. But then on the following hole, Scheffler had another long putt to try to halve and hole and before he could putt, both Kim and Im walked off the hole and to the 9th tee box.

Scheffler missed the putt, giving the International team the hole.

Tom Kim Called Out Scottie Scheffler Before Tense Moment At Presidents Cup

Entering the week, Kim talked at length about the opportunity to square off with the top-ranked Scheffler.

“If I can play with Scottie, that would be very fun,” he said. “We’re comfortable with each other, I play a lot of golf with him back home. For one week, I absolutely dislike him.

“I had a chance to take him down one-on-one this year (at the Travelers Championship) but I lost. I like to be able to have a revenge match. He’s always going to play really, really well but at the same time, if I can do something special on Sunday (singles session) against a player of caliber like him, it’ll be huge for our team.”

Now it appears Kim is taking that challenge to heart. In doing so, he may have brought out a different beast in the typically reserved Scheffler.
