Scottie Scheffler revealed that he recently shunned a golf fan asking for his autograph on the course. His reasoning behind that denial is both understandable and downright funny.

A Dallas native, he refused to hand over his signature when someone walked up to him with a Boston Celtics cap. This, of course, coming after the C’s took down Scheffler’s hometown Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

He broke it down in a recent interview ahead of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

A reporter asked if he’d received any trash talk from other golfers around the PGA Tour following the Dallas defeat in that Finals series. While he said he hasn’t been the target of ribbing from fellow players, he did have a hilarious exchange with a Boston fan.

“[I probably won’t hear any trash talk] from other golfers,” he said. “Maybe Keegan [Bradley], but probably not. I wouldn’t really expect it out of him. I did get one fan today that asked me to sign a Celtics hat, and I told him no.”

Scottie Scheffler’s maybe the nicest golfer on the Tour, but everyone has a line that they just won’t cross. We now know his!

The world’s No. 1, and former Texas Longhorn, refuses to ditch his Lone Star State roots, though it was an A+ troll attempt by that Celtics supporter.

Scottie Scheffler is gearing up for the Travelers Championship.

The golfer’s heater of a season continues in Connecticut this weekend where he’ll take part in his 15th field of the year. He’s made the cut in each of those 14 previous tournaments, landing five wins, a pair of runner-ups, and 12 Top 10s.

That said, he did struggle in his most recent outing at the US Open, finishing the four-round event +8 and in a tie for 41st place.

He’ll look to flush that performance and get back to his winning ways on a course where he placed fourth last season. That Top 5 finish was the best of his career at TPC River Highlands.

It’s been a profitable year for Scheffler, who just broke his own record for single-season earnings. Thus far, he’s racked up more than $24M, breaking his previous mark of $21M.

He’ll hope to add to it this week!
