Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori has been a pivotal part of the Seattle Seahawks unlikely run to Super Bowl 60, and now he’s gearing up to play in the biggest football game of his life.

However, his mother, Justina, doesn’t understand all the hype around the big game.

Emmanwori, the 35th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, has been a star for Seattle. The first-team All-Rookie selection notched 81 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and an interception for Mike MacDonald’s elite defense.

Justina, however, is a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria, and is only just learning about football as her son becomes a star in the NFL.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know,” she said in an interview with ABC 25 in Columbia, South Carolina. “Everybody keeps asking me, ‘Do you know what they’re going for?’ I said, ‘Super Bowl.’ They said, ‘Do you know how many people died to go to the Super Bowl?’ I’m like, ‘How? I don’t know.’ I have the opportunity to go there, so I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe this is something big that I don’t know.’ It’s big. I don’t know what I’m expecting. All I’m going to do is shout, ‘Yeah! Super Bowl! Touchdown! We win!’ That’s it. That’s all I’m going to do.”

TALK ABOUT WHOLESOME.

Unfortunately, Emmanwori suffered an ankle injury in practice earlier this week. While it’s not expected to keep him out entirely against New England, it could well limit his effectiveness, which is a potentially game-changing development for the Seahawks.
