Caitlin Clark made more WNBA history on Sunday by setting the rookie record for single season scoring. The guard racked up 35 points in an exciting win to do so, which represented a career high.

Clark bested previous record holder Seimone Augustus, who scored 744 points in her 2006 debut campaign. That mark stood for 18 seasons before the Indiana Fever sharpshooter took the crown.

While some have put an asterisk next to Clark’s name due to number of games played, the accomplishment won’t be taken away. She stands at 761 total points with another regular season contest left to play before gearing up for the WNBA playoffs.

The guard was asked about the honor after her team’s 110-109 win against the Wings.

“I was a huge fan of [Seimone Augustus],” she said. “I think she was the first player that I ever met… It comes full circle, for sure. I remember I got my picture with her on my dad’s phone… I was always a fan of her game, and the way she scored the ball.”

Caitlin Clark admitted to being a huge fan of both Seimone Augustus and the Minnesota Lynx. She recalled watching from the stands at someone she likely considered a basketball role model.

Now, she’s gotten the opportunity to cement her name next to Augustus’s in the WNBA record books!

Making the moment even more special, the Hall of Famer responded to the rookie’s scoring feat on Monday, showing love to Clark after she bested her mark.

The response wasn’t a long and drawn-out post. Rather, it was a simple retweet of an ESPN article sharing Clark’s thoughts on becoming a WNBA record holder.

Enough said!

The Indiana Fever have one last regular season game before moving into the postseason. The team has clinched the No. 6 seed and is now 20-19 following a 2-9 start to the year.
