Sha’Carri Richardson ran her fastest 100-meter split of the current track and field season during the preliminary round at the United States championships. She was arrested just a few days prior.

Despite the optics, this latest sequence of events proves the 25-year-old is actually in peak mental form.

Richardson is one of the fastest women in track and field. If she can put this most recent incident in her rear-view mirror to win a national title, it would be one of her greatest accomplishments to date.

UPDATE: Richardson and Gabby Thomas withdrew from remaining competition in the 100 on Friday evening. The former will not run the 200. The latter has yet to decide.

Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested in Seattle.

Details of the arrest are currently unknown. However, according to public records, Richardson was booked at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington at 3:54 p.m. on Sunday. She was released by court order on Monday at 10:13 a.m.

Here is where things get interesting…

Erin Brown is a prominent voice in the world of track and field media. He shared the following Instagram message from an alleged eyewitness on Monday:

This specific account of what supposedly went down at the Seattle airport is not confirmed. The Port of Seattle Police Department has yet to respond to any inquiries regarding Sha’Carri Richardson.

It did not slow her down!

Richardson spent the night in jail on Sunday into Monday. She later traveled to Eugene, Oregon for the USATF Outdoor Championships.

Nobody really knew of the arrest. It was mostly kept quiet. There was not a lot of chatter, if any.

Although Sha’Carri Richardson does not need to qualify for the 2025 World Championships as the reigning world champ, the controversial sprinter stayed true to her schedule on Thursday. She ran 11.07 in the opening heat of the 100.

It was her fastest time of the season! Richardson said after the race that she is confident and happy after “letting go of so many things” that “held her down as an anchor.”

My thought is this:

Sha’Carri Richardson got arrested over the weekend, stayed completely silent on the matter, and ran her fastest race of the year. That is a huge sign of growth, in a weird way. Something like this might’ve crumbled her mental performance in the past. She might’ve caused a scene. She might’ve blown up.

Not this time! Richardson kept her cool after a night in jail and set a season’s best.

Regardless of what happens in the semifinals and the final, that is a huge accomplishment for someone who often finds herself in the center of controversy. Sha’Carri Richardson is focused on the task at hand.
