The beef between Shedeur Sanders and Cam Newton is very real. It escalated to new levels of awkward during a tense pregame interaction prior to Saturday’s college football game between UCF and Colorado.

We finally know what actually happened!

Newton played for head coach Gus Malzahn during his career at Auburn. Malzahn is now in Orlando to coach the Knights. The former went to visit the latter over the weekend.

However, on the Wednesday leading up to the game, Newton spoke about the Buffaloes’ two biggest stars on his podcast. His comments about Shedeur Sanders were not flattering.

Although the former Heisman Trophy winner expressed his love for the Sanders family, he repeatedly mentioned how the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback is not that likable— especially when compared to Travis Hunter Jr. The 35-year-old also questioned if the 22-year-old signal-caller has anything to hang his hat on in college.

Newton’s comments did not give Shedeur any reason to feel all warm and fuzzy toward him.

Fast forward to Saturday.

Sanders was warming up at the Bounce House for Colorado’s first Big 12 game on the East Coast. Newton approached the star quarterback to say hello. That did not go over well.

Not only did he interrupt his pregame routine, Sanders did not have any interest in talking to Newton after what he said on the podcast just a few days prior and totally snubbed him. It was awkward.

On-field video later revealed that Sanders told Newton that he is “on some weird s—.” That was all we knew at the time.

Fortunately, Newton captured the entire exchange.

Sanders clearly heard/saw the podcast clip and took offense to the disrespect. He was unwilling to talk to Newton in front of all the cameras, which implies some kind of behind-the-scenes conversation.

Hunter had a similar exchange prior to kickoff. However, the new video from Cam Newton’s POV shows that his beef was less serious than his quarterback’s.

Hunter was laughing, joking and smiling. Sanders stayed completely straight-faced.
