There’ no doubt that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of head coach and NFL legend Deion Sanders, is one of the most well-known players in all of college football. But, is he one of the best players in the sport?

The production team at EA Sports seems to think so.  They rated Shedeur Sanders a 93 overall on the upcoming College Football 25, tied for the highest-rated quarterback in the game with Georgia’s Carson Beck.

EA Sports released the player ratings for the top 100 players in the game, due to be released to much fanfare next week. While the highest- rated players, at 96 overall, were LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson, and Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, 93 is still a really impressive rating.

While detailed attributes were not released, some of the base athleticism ones were. Sanders has 80 speed, 85 acceleration, 72 strenth, 98 awareness, and 84 jumping.

That awareness number really sticks out as something that is probably way too high. It’s not that he isn’t an aware player who shows some smarts in the pocket and has good anticipation.

But, if you’re the one of the fourst smartest players in the country as the ratings suggest, you should not be taking 52 sacks in a season like Shedeur Sanders did last year. Yes, the offensive line was not good in Boulder, but quarterbacks with truly elite awareness get the ball out on time to avoid sacks.

That’s not to say Sanders isn’t a great player. Despite that terrible offensive line play, he threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns with 3 interceptions last year. But, the Buffs went 4-8 and 1-7 in conference play. It’s tough for me to say a guy who only won four games at the most important position on the field should be a 93-overall.

Teammate and two-way phenom Travis Hunter was ranked as a 95.

It will all be settled on the field and the console very soon.

College Football 25 comes out next Monday for the early access and Friday, July 19 for regular copies.
