Although there were a number of storylines to watch during the first round of the NFL Draft, no single player was more talked about than Shedeur Sanders. The son of Deion Sanders did not hear his name called on Thursday night.
And yet, that is not what his father said would happen around this time last year!
Shedeur is perhaps the most contentious prospect in this year’s NFL Draft. Some people believe that he will be a future Hall of Famer like his dad. Others think that he lacks the arm strength and athleticism to compete on the next level. There might be even more concern about his attitude.
Multiple anonymous reports came out in the weeks leading up to the Draft that Shedeur bombed all of his interviews at the NFL Combine. I don’t know whether that is the reality of this situation, or if it is his shortcomings as a quarterback, but he did not get picked in the first round. Cam Ward went No. 1. The Giants traded up to select Jaxson Dart at No. 25.
Shedeur Sanders did not hear his name called, which made the party rather awkward. He said that, while “we all didn’t expect this,” the snub will continue to fuel his fire.
It will be interesting to see just how far Shedeur falls. Cleveland, Las Vegas and New Orleans could use a quarterback. They will all pick within the first eight picks of the second round. Maybe a team like Pittsburgh is looking to trade up and take their future franchise signal-caller.
Regardless of what does happen, Shedeur did not live up to his father’s prophecy. Deion Sanders sent out a cryptic post to social media on May 1, 2024.

Although I admire how Deion Sanders believes in his children, he really put his foot in his mouth on this one. The universe might be punishing him for the arrogance. His son was not a top-five pick like he declared. His son was not even drafted in the first round. Brutal.
To be fair, I can appreciate that Deion has yet to delete his post about Shedeur Sanders. He is choosing not to run from the trolls even though he probably should take it down at this point.
