The Cleveland Browns quarterback situation just got interesting. On Tuesday, Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot revealed that Shedeur Sanders will start in the Browns’ first preseason game due to the fact that they have several injured QBs going into the game.

“Sanders, the Browns fourth-team quarterback who has yet to take a snap with the first-team offense, is expected to start the game, a league source tells cleveland.com.”

“He’ll get the nod because Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are both nursing hamstring injuries, and the Browns don’t want Joe Flacco, 40, playing in the preseason opener.”

Just last week, Sanders was asked why he thought the Browns had allowed him to practice with the first-team offense throughout camp.

“It’s a lot of people that want to have the opportunity to be at this level and I’m here and I’m thankful to have the opportunity. So whenever that is, it is, but it doesn’t make me feel down or it doesn’t make me feel left out or anything because I know who I am as a person. I know who I am as an individual and I know what I could bring to this team, so I can never feel less than in any circumstance.”

Sanders is expected to get first-team reps on Wednesday ahead of the Browns’ game against the Panthers.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Sanders is still a long shot to be the Browns’ starter during the regular season.

“He’s still behind. He’s caught up some. I would put the chance that he’s starting the season opener as microscopic, but if he looks good, maybe he earns some more reps in 11-on-11”
