It’s been nearly two weeks since the shocking news broke of the Michigan Wolverines firing head football coach Sherrone Moore for cause after he was found to have had an inappropriate relationship with a member of his staff.
And with each passing day, the news seems to get worse for Moore, who is also facing charges for alleged stalking, breaking and entering, and home invasion against the staffer.
According to a new report from The Athletic, not only did Moore create an unhealthy culture around the Michigan football program, but he also explicitly instructed players not to do the thing that got him fired.
Sherrone Moore Was In IG DMs After Issuing ‘No Social Media’ Challenge To Players
The new report revealed that Moore issued a challenge to his players during Fall camp ahead of the 2025 season. He instituted a “no social media” challenge for the entire program, with the goal of helping players and coaches focus on football. Players and staff accepted the challenge and noted as much when it began with social media posts using the hashtag #LockedIn.
However, while Moore’s players and staff stepped up to the challenge, the head coach was doing anything but.
“I really wasn’t on (social media) until last week. And then I’m back off of it again,” Moore told members of the media the Monday before Michigan’s opening game. “It’s kind of good not to be on it. I kind of feel good about that.”
However, according to the report, that may not have been true.
“One woman with whom he shared mutual connections provided messages the two exchanged after he asked her if he could fly her to come see him (she does not live in Michigan). She asked him why he’d do that and whether he had considered the potential ramifications of a relationship. If she visited, would she need to avoid being seen in public?” the report states.
Moore then told the woman that she’d likely be confined to a hotel. But stated that he would also provide her with a driver. He also said he’d look into further details if she decided to come to Ann Arbor.
Additionally, Moore told police that his relationship with the staffer that led to his firing lasted “approximately two years.” That meant the relationship began before he was Michigan’s head coach.
All the while, he was asking players not to partake in the same behavior that he had been participating in. As it turns out, Moore’s entire tenure as the Wolverines’ head coach was a house of cards. So it probably shouldn’t be all that surprised to see it come crashing down.
