Shilo Sanders was asked about his ongoing bankruptcy case while at Big 12 media days this week.
Colorado’s starting safety doesn’t seem all that worried about the off-field troubles. Instead, he and his family are focused on the upcoming season in Boulder.
Shilo was in Las Vegas this week alongside father, Deion, and brother, Shedeur. The Buffs were one of the headliners of the event as they make the transition from the PAC 12.
While most of the conversation revolved around football, Shilo Sanders’ bankruptcy case did become a topic of conversation when he sat down with members of the media.
He didn’t seem too worried about the offseason distraction.
“Honestly, that kind of stuff, like, you can’t, you’re not gonna win a court case on social media. At the end of the day everybody is gonna know the truth about everything, you know? So there’s no point in just going out of my way to do that. So everything’s good.”
The defender initially filed bankruptcy in response to an $11.89M lawsuit brought about by a security guard at his former school.
Here’s more on that situation from USA Today:
Shilo Sanders, Colorado’s leading tackler last year, fell into bankruptcy after a court in Texas issued a $11.89 million civil default judgment against him in 2022. That judgment is owed to a security guard at Shilo’s former school in Dallas – John Darjean, who said Shilo assaulted him with a roundhouse elbow in 2015, severely damaging Darjean’s spine and causing permanent injuries.
Shilo, and the rest of the Sanders bunch, wanted to turn the attention to the field.
Deion Sanders was also asked about the bankruptcy filing, taking a similar stance as his son. They didn’t want to make an off-field story overshadow the program’s future.
That said, the family seems excited for what’s to come in 2024.
After last year’s 4-8 season, which ended on a six-game losing streak, many have written the Buffs off. That hasn’t stopped them from talking!
Shedeur Sanders was asked about his expectation for the season to come, and he believes Colorado will have a target on its back.
“I know what the expectation is… I know we’re everybody’s Super Bowl. So, I’m really just always staying level-headed and staying grounded because I would never wanna be that guy to look back and not take advantage of the moment that we have right now.”

While the starting signal caller locks down the offensive side of the ball, his brother is working to lead the defense.
He was asked about his role in the secondary, and he believes the Buffaloes will boast one of the nation’s best safety duos.

Colorado hopes to erase the memories of that late season skid in 2023 with a competitive debut in the Big 12. There’s certainly no lack of confidence. We’ll see if the team can back it up on the field.
