The legend of Shohei Ohtani continued to grow in 2024 when he became the first Major League Baseball player to join the 50/50 club, hitting 54 home runs and stealing 59 bases en route to his third Most Valuable Player award. On Sunday morning, his legend grew even more.

That’s because on Sunday morning, a one-of-a-kind 2024 Topps Dynasty Black Shohei Ohtani “50/50” Relic card became the first Los Angeles Dodgers trading card to sell for more than one million dollars. $1,067,500, to be exact. It was also the most money ever paid for a Shohei Ohtani card.

For anyone with deep pockets out there who missed out on the card, the auction site that sold it says the new owner of the card is now taking offers of $1,334,374 or more.

“This item’s owner is actively responding to (though not necessarily routinely accepting) offers,” the site reads. “Most owners in this category are still actively buying, and therefore interested only in offers where they can net (after our 10% fee) an amount sufficiently above today’s market value. Owners in this category seldom counter-offer, and will usually simply reject offers placed at current auction values or lower.”

According to The Athletic, the previous record for a Shoehei Ohtani card was set on Nov. 3 when an Orange Refractor of his 2018 Bowman Chrome autographed rookie card sold for $533,140. Interestingly, a Topps Dynasty Black card featuring a piece of both the pants and the batting gloves he wore during that same “50/50” game sold on Feb. 22 for only $173,240.

Last year, the ball that Shohei Ohtani hit for his 50th home run to put him in the 50/50 club sold for $4.392 million. And in other trading card news, earlier this month, a one-of-a-kind 2024 Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch autographed Topps Chrome Update card sold for $1.11 million.
