Shohei Ohtani‘s 50/50 ball sold for a hefty amount despite the fact they’re still figuring out who actually owns the ball.

Last month, while in Miami, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steals in a season.

Fans scrambled to grab Shohei Ohtani‘s record-winning record, and a man named Christian Zacek was able to leave home with it.

18-year-old Max Matus sued Zacek and claimed he had the ball ripped from his arms. A third man claims he “firmly held the ball in his hands” before an unknown fan attacked him.

The three men agreed to allow the auction of the Ohtani ball to go forward while the lawsuit is ongoing.

Attorneys Robinson, Claussen and Josefsberg released statement revealing the agreement between the men.

“We are thrilled to announce that all three baseball fans in the Shohei Ohtani 50/50 baseball litigation matters have agreed that the auction and sale of one of the most extraordinary pieces of sports memorabilia in history will proceed as scheduled without any opposition to the sale from each of the fans. This agreement provides certainty to potential buyers that the historic 50/50 baseball will be sold free and clear of any legal claims to the baseball against the future buyer. We believe that this agreement reflects all parties’ recognition of this monumental achievement and will allow the full value of this historic 50/50 baseball to be fully recognized at the auction.”

On Tuesday, the ball was sold for a whopping $4.392 million by Goldin Auctions.

Goldin, an internationally-renowned collectibles marketplace known for rare and record-breaking sports memorabilia sales, announces the historic sale price of Shohei Ohtani’s 50/50 home run ball. The auction officially closed on October 23rd at 12:26 a.m. ET, with the final price of the iconic piece of sports memorabilia reaching $4,392,000 million, making it the highest sale price for a baseball – and for any ball in any sport – ever sold.

“Shohei Ohtani made history with this baseball, and now, with the highest sale price for any ball ever sold, this legendary piece of sports memorabilia has made history again,” said Ken Goldin, Founder and CEO of Goldin. “We received bids from around the world, a testament to the significance of this iconic collectible and Ohtani’s impact on sports, and I’m thrilled for the winning bidder.”
