Single Fan Storms Court After NCAA D1 Team Snaps 0-26 Losing Streak To Start The Season

Not all that long ago, the Detroit Mercy Titans reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed out of the Horizon League.

Fast forward a bit and the Titans are one of, if not the world team in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.

But on Wednesday, they picked up their first win of the season with an 81-66 victory over IUPUI, and one fan decided to celebrate the victory in style.

A single fan decided to storm the court at Calihan Hall following the win. Although, is it really considered storming if it’s just one fan? Additionally, we use the term single to refer to the quantity, but considering it was Valentine’s Day and he was watching an 0-26 team, we can probably safely assume it refers to this relationship status as well.

The victory kept Detroit Mercy from becoming the first Division I men’s team to go winless in more than a decade, COVID season not included. Grambling State went 0-27 in 2012-13.

“My wife always makes me a coffee before I go to bed. It always tastes pretty good,” head coach Mike Davis said after the victory.”Tonight, the coffee will taste really good.”

Coffee before bed, huh? Bold choice.

Detroit Mercy Coach Mike Davis Has Struggled In His Time At The Helm

Davis is in his sixth season with the Titans and has never made the NCAA Tournament. In fact, he’s only finished one season above .500.

Detroit Mercy made headlines last season when Davis’ son, Antoine, nearly eclipsed Pete Maravich’s all-time NCAA basketball scoring record this year. He fell three points short.

Although Maravich reached the mark in more than 60 fewer games.

The Titans, who finished the season at 14-19, were denied a spot in the postseason College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

“I’m upset about it. I feel like I got cheated out of something that they can’t ever give back to me.,” Antoine Jackson said of the decision.

Which may explain why the Detroit Mercy program has been such a disaster in recent years.
