The Cleveland Browns not only let down a large portion of their fan base by hiring former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach, but apparently sports media personality Skip Bayless, too.
According to Skip Bayless, he was hoping that the Browns would hire Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase, a former quarterback at the University of Illinois.
Instead, the Browns went with, as Bayless put it, an “older white coach” in 59-year-old Todd Monken, who has been the OC of the Ravens since 2023, and previously served as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2018 and the Browns in 2019.

“WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO BLACK HEAD COACHES? I wanted a young Black coach over Todd Monken for Shedeur,” Bayless captioned the post.
“Does Todd Monken believe in Shedeur Sanders as the future? I have no idea. And I’m not saying this would be a disaster for Shedeur but Todd Monken obviously is an older white coach,” Bayless says in the 23-minute-long video.

While the Browns’ uninspiring hire deserves proportional ridicule, his argument is flawed because it operates from the assumption that the organization considers Sanders the future of the franchise. Despite being named to the Pro Bowl earlier the week, the statistics make clear that the 5th round pick had a horrible rookie season.
During his rookie season, Sanders played in eight games and completed 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, with just a 6.6 yards-per-attempt average.
In this Spring’s NFL Draft, the Browns own the #6 overall pick, with NFL.com identifying quarterback, offensive line, wide receiver, cornerback, and linebacker.
