A Tearful Skylar Diggins-Smith ‘‘Nobody Wanted To’ Play In WNBA Game After Brittney Griner Was Sentenced To 9 Years In Russian Prison

WNBA star Skylar Diggins-Smith was emotional following Brittney Griner’s sentencing.

On Thursday afternoon, a Russian court sentenced Griner to nine years in prison after she pleaded guilty to illegally having vape cartridges containing 0.7 grams of cannabis oil in her luggage while traveling through a Moscow airport in February.

On the same night, Griner was sentenced the Phoenix Mercury and the Phoenix Mercury and the Connecticut Sun held a 42-second moment of silence to show their support for the imprisoned WNBA star.

While speaking to the media, an emotional Diggins-Smith revealed that no one wanted to play in the game following Griner’s sentence.

“Nobody wanted to even play today,” “How are you supposed to approach the game with a clear mind when the whole group is crying before the game?”
