Saturday Night Live invited members of the United States men’s and women’s hockey team to join the first broadcast following the Olympics. Hilary Knight got one back on President Donald Trump.
She cracked a joke in direct response to the locker room phone call heard around the world.
It is truly unfortunate that a brief conversation with the President of the United States became the biggest storyline from the Olympics. SNL proved it’s just not that serious.
Donald Trump invited the United States men’s (and women’s) hockey teams to the White House after the Olympics.
If you have not heard by now, President Trump called the United States men’s hockey team to celebrate its first gold medal at the Olympics in more than 40 years. He invited them to the White House.
In doing so, he joked that he would also have to invite the women’s team— to avoid getting impeached.
The quip from President Trump did not go over well.
A large number of people who did not previously care about the men’s or women’s hockey teams suddenly took up arms. They could not believe the men would laugh at such a horrible joke.
Jack Hughes slammed the “negative people” who were upset over the phone call. His mother, who plays a crucial role with the women’s team, kept the focus on hockey. Abbey Murphy also spoke up in defense of the men’s team. She found it “sad they even have to apologize.” As did Megan Keller.
Others focused their anger only toward the President, who they already did not like before. They still don’t like him now. His comment became the latest reason for their outrage. On to the next.
And then there was Knight— who is actually qualified to speak on the subject as captain of the women’s team. She labeled the joke as “distasteful.” That is that. Nothing more needs to be said!
The women’s team ultimately declined an invitation to the White House because they have a busy schedule. Those who are not back playing for their college teams will instead go party with Flavor Flav in Las Vegas. A future trip to D.C. is not off of the table. Just not right now.
Hilary Knight got one back on the President!
As the gold medal celebration continues for Team USA, members of both the men’s and women’s hockey teams made an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Jack and Quinn Hughes appeared alongside Connor Storrie (from Heated Rivalry) during his opening monologue. They shared a few laughs and cracked a few jokes.
And then it was time for the big reveal.
Hilary Knight and Megan Keller made their way onto the stage to join Storrie and the Hughes brothers. The Saturday Night Live crowd went wild.
Knight joked that it was only going to be the women, but they decided to invite the men too. ZING!
Both Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes had a good laugh at the joke. They were having a great time. Which just goes to show, it’s not that serious. Humor is always the great uniter.
Well done, SNL!
