The South Carolina football team was beaten for a fourth time in five games by SEC rival Oklahoma over the weekend. Not many were on hand to watch the final moments.
Frustrations with the Gamecocks‘ lacking offensive production are mounting. To this point, head coach Shane Beamer refuses to make a change.
South Carolina entered the year with momentum after finishing the 2024 regular season on a six-game winning streak. Heisman candidate LaNorris Sellers was back to lead the group.
The team was ranked in the preseason Top 15. It’s failed to meet expectations. Much of that is due to poor offensive play.
South Carolina wants a new football coach.
Last year’s offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains accepted the head coaching gig at Appalachian State in the offseason. He was replaced by QB coach Mike Shula.
Shula came in with two decades of NFL experience, as well as a short stint as Alabama’s head coach. He helped Sellers develop into a freshman phenom.
Unfortunately, he’s left much to be desired in terms of play calling. The Gamecocks have seen a massive drop-off on offense in his debut as OC.
South Carolina has not scored more than 21 points in a game on offense this year. They have 12 offensive touchdowns through seven games, while leading the nation with six special teams or defensive scores.
The team ranks 121st in total yards. It ranks 126th in sacks allowed. The rushing attack sits at 113th in the nation.
After a 10-point output against LSU, offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley was fired. Shula remained safe. Fans want to see more action taken.

“Fire Mike Shula” chants broke out as the home crowd watched South Carolina struggle to put up seven points in a loss to Oklahoma. The Gamecocks have had enough.
Shane Beamer was asked about the offensive coordinator’s status after the game. He refused to honor fans’ wishes.
“I made a change last week, Jack.”

Beamer, as of the time of this writing, has not made a move at offensive coordinator. It could lead to more ugly scenes in Williams-Brice Stadium this year.
Fans deserted the Gamecocks.

Despite it being a 10-point game late in the third quarter, fans bailed. South Carolina supporters had seen enough ineptitude on the offensive side of the football.
Interest has largely been lost following the excitement of the offseason. The road won’t get any easier for the Gamecocks.
They’ll welcome in Alabama for homecoming next week before games against Ole Miss and Texas A&M. They’ll close the year with the annual rivalry against Clemson.
