It’s hard to envy the social media managers who are tasked with covering a team that gets absolutely dominated by the opposition. That’s the position the men’s basketball team at Southern Utah found itself in after getting destroyed by Gonzaga, and we were treated to a hilarious tweet after the lopsided contest came to a merciful end.

The men’s basketball team at Southern Utah headed into the current season hoping to improve on the 12-19 record they posted during the previous campaign, but they have not gotten off to a great start on that quest.

The Thunderbirds opened things up with back-t0-back double-digit losses at the hands of Arizona State and Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and while they were able to get their first victory of the season over Bethesda University (a school affiliated with the National Christian College Athletic Association), they were 1-3 heading into Monday’s showdown with Gonzaga following a 90-85 loss at the hands of Omaha.

The #13 Bulldogs were listed as overwhelming 33.5-point favorites, and they didn’t have any trouble covering the spread while running up the score before someone affiliated with Southern Utah summed up the essence of the rout with a fantastic nine-word recap.

Southern Utah had the perfect response after Gonzaga beat them by 72 points

Southern Utah knew it was signing up to serve as a sacrificial lamb when it agreed to the buy game that brought the Thunderbirds to Spokane on Monday night, and there was almost zero doubt the Bulldogs were going to improve to 5-0 in front of a friendly crowd at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

That ended up being the case, as the home team quickly pulled out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back en route to securing a 122-50 victory as Braden Huff scored a game-high 22 points as one of five Bulldogs who ended up with double digits.

It’s become customary for teams to post the final score of a game on social media to the point where fans are ready to pounce on those who don’t after things fail to go their way. Southern Utah technically dodged that formality, but it nonetheless acknowledged what went down with a tweet that read “They scored a lot, we didn’t score as much.”
