Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson would like everyone to know that he doesn’t have the inside scoop on any upcoming UFC fights.
On Monday, during an interview with Fred Talks Fighting, Thompson went viral when he made an offhand comment about Jorge Masvidal possibly replacing Kamaru Usman to face Leon Edwards in March.
🚨 Kamaru Usman may be OUT of the trilogy between him and Leon Edwards because of hand surgery.
Wonderboy says the UFC “want someone to fight in March” and (the UFC) “are looking at Jorge Masvidal” 😳

We talked to Thompson on Tuesday regarding his comments courtesy of FightCamp, “the at-home boxing gym,” which has partnered with notable striking experts like Thompson to create online workouts for users to follow.
According to Thompson, he misspoke during the interview with Fred Talks Fighting while speculating on potential matchups if Usman couldn’t fight in March. The UFC welterweight is adamant that he has no inside information and just thought Masvidal-Edwards would be a logical fight to make based on their history.
“It was an accident. Okay. So, of course, everybody thinks that I must have had some inside scoop. What I meant to say was I could definitely see that happening. You know what I’m was saying? I can see that happening because there was beef between Leon and Jorge Masvidal.
“That was, like, super random. Why would I be the only one to know about this? I don’t know, but what happened was I was asked about the fight, and I said, well, I could see Usman having surgery on his hand, not being able to make it, and Jorge Masvidal filling in because those two had beef in London last time. Jorge ended up hitting him with that three piece and a soda. I said I could see that happening, but I thought I meant to say, but of course, it got all blown out of text and context and went viral.”
We also spoke to Thompson about this UFC 282’s extremely controversial decision in the Paddy Pimblett-Jared Gordon fight
“Yeah, man, I didn’t see it. I didn’t see how Paddy won that fight. His opponent had way more control time. The exchanges I thought he got the best of the exchanges. He was closing the gap, getting on the inside of Paddy’s reach. It’s just one of those things, ad when you’re at that level, it’s very difficult. I don’t see how the judges do it. I would hate to be a judge, to be honest with you, for some of these fights and how close they are, but everybody thought his opponent won, and nobody thought Paddyy won it. But it’s good that Paddyy is so popular right now, because if he wasn’t, I think he would have lost the fight.”
Before his fight with Kevin Holland, Thompson teamed up with FightCamp, the connected, at-home boxing gym that includes boxing gloves, a punching bag, and performance-tracking technology allowing users to track their progress and improve their skills over time.
The FightCamp app connects users with world-class fighters and certified experts offering workouts for all levels and skill sets.
On the app, Thompson walks FightCamp users through how he structures his training camp leading into a fight. In his four-week ‘fight camp’ , Stephen works with users on kickboxing skills, conditioning, strength, and bag work. Here’s how he describes it.
“It’s actually really cool. My cardio is great, and I started this camp literally in California with FightCamp. It’s a connected at home boxing gym built and tested by world-class fighters with real life boxing experience. So the workouts combined, like, boxing and body weight exercise designed to give you a hyper efficient full body workout. It’s awesome, and it’s on an app, you can do this at home, and you’re being trained by world-class fighters such as myself and others. I had a great time up there, and like I said, I literally started this FightCamp for my last fight and it’s freaking awesome. I don’t see how people don’t download this app and get started now. Fight Camp also has performance tracking technology, so you just can see their progress and improve their skills over time. So that’s innovative. That’s new. Not a whole lot of people can get this from an app such as Fight Camp. It’s amazing”
