The Creighton basketball team bested Louisville in the first round of NCAA Tournament action on Thursday, 89-75. The Bluejays used a huge performance from super senior Steven Ashworth to come out victorious.

The veteran scored 22 points with his young son in attendance. He had ice water in his veins as he hit shot after shot to sink the Cardinals.

Ashworth made his presence known almost immediately in the postseason contest. He hit his first three-pointer early in the first half of play to extend his team’s lead.

The Bluejays wouldn’t look back, and neither would their senior star. He finished the day with a game-high four three-pointers. He shot 6-of-13 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw stripe.

He did so with his family in the stands cheering him on. Ashworth’s nine-month-old son went viral at one point in the action after cameras found him “celebrating.”

Louisville coach Pat Kelsey called the sharpshooter a “stone cold killer” after seeing him on the floor. Those familiar with the Bluejays have known this for some time.

Steven Ashworth has had a long college career. He’s 24 years old. Creighton is his second school after initially beginning his career at Utah State.

Ashworth has played in 165 games over five years. He averaged a career-high 16.3 points per game in the 2024-25 campaign. The guard was a major piece to the Bluejays’ run to the Big Dance. Viewers took note of his performance on Thursday.

Steven Ashworth’s name began trending on social media. Here are some of the best reactions on X.

“Steven Ashworth looks like he’s 35 in tech sales”

“Steven Ashworth has been playing since the Bush administration.”

“Steven Ashworth has been hitting 3’s since 1976.”

“Steven Ashworth looks like an accountant and he’s absolutely cooking. Get a LinkedIn, buddy.”

For reference, Ashworth is a year older than Anthony Edwards, who’s been playing in the NBA since 2020.

The senior’s March Madness run will continue at least one game longer thanks to the Creighton win. The Bluejays will face the winner of Auburn and Alabama State on Saturday.
