Sydney Sweeney certainly hasn’t been conservative when it comes to her acting choices over the years, as she’s starred in relatively risky projects such as Under the Silver Lake, The Voyeurs, Reality and Immaculate and others. Her latest staring role, however, may be her wildest yet.

According to reports, Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star in an adaption of the Edgar Allan Poe short story The Masque of the Red Death in what’s being described as being a “wildly revisionist and darkly comedic take.”

Set to be produced by acclaimed studio A24, The Masque of the Red Death is being written and directed by Charlie Polinger, who has just one feature film under his belt: a Joel Edgerton-starring  movie The Plague, which has yet to be released.

“Charlie Polinger is writing and directing, with A24 handling domestic distribution. Polinger will also executive produce alongside Lucy McKendrick. The original Poe short story follows a prince who attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. Details behind this new take are being kept under wraps.” [via Deadline]

According to the Hollywood trades, production on the film is set to begin this year. Sweeney recently wrapped production on a biopic about boxer Christy Martin, which is expected to release in theaters this year, and started filming an adaptation of the thriller novel The Housemaid, director by Paul Feig. Sweeney is also set to return for the third season of HBO’s Euphoria, which is also reported to begin production sometime this year.

In addition to the aforementioned films, Sweeney is known for her work in movies such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Nocturne, Night Teeth, Americana, Anyone But You, Madame Web, and Eden, and TV series such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, and The White Lotus.
