Taylor Elgersma will be the first quarterback to participate in the Senior Bowl who played for a college football team in Canada. He has very quickly emerged as an NFL Draft sleeper over the last few months.
His rise could reach historic heights with a strong performance in Mobile next week.
Before we go any further, lets make this important distinction very clear. Elgersma is not the first player from Canada to compete at the Senior Bowl. In fact, the premier all-star game in college football has had players from north of the border every year for the last six years.
Elgersma is the second player in Senior Bowl history to come directly from a Canadian college football team, which they call U Sports, and the first quarterback. He did not play on the FBS, FCS, D-II or D-III level in the United States at any point during his career. He played all five seasons at a school in Canada.
Taylor Elgersma is legit!
Wilfrid Laurier University, most commonly referred to as just Laurier, was established in 1911. It is located in Waterloo, Ontario and enrolls approximately 22,000 students. Elgersma was one of them.
The 6-foot-6, 213-pound quarterback committed to the Golden Hawks in 2020. His career officially began after the pandemic.
Elgersma was named as the starting quarterback for Laurier in 2022. He finished as the most accomplished player in school history. The Golden Hawks reached the national championship at 11-1 and their signal-caller was named as the Hec Crighton Award Winner, the Heisman Trophy of Canada.
Elgersma completed 73% of his passes for 4,252 yards and 35 touchdowns with seven more touchdowns as a runner. His arm strength was on full display all year. Just for example, check out this corner ball. He ripped it for almost 60 yards in the air!
I don’t have any ties to Queen’s, but they have a fantastic stadium and they know how to put on a great event. I’ve been impressed with every visit to Richardson Stadium. pic.twitter.com/ePHaexn2qF

Excited to see him down at the @SeniorBowl next week. pic.twitter.com/QODW0jRfWe
The first thing that stands out on tape is his willingness to attack the middle of the field and seams. He layers his throws into tight spaces with the football a equivalent of a fastball and off-speed pitch.
Decided to check out Taylor Elgersma and first thing that stands out is his willingness to attack the MOF and seams. Has a fast ball and off speed pitch that allows him to effectively layer footballs in tight spaces.

Taylor Elgersma already attended two all-star events state-side and competed in the College Gridiron Showcase and the Tropical Stardom Scrimmage in Orlando, Fla. Eight NFL teams showed real interest, which got him the invite to Mobile.

This year’s NFL Draft class is way down when it comes to quarterbacks. Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe and Cam Ward seem to be the top three guys and then it’s pretty wide open from there. If Taylor Elgersma balls out at the Senior Bowl like everyone expects, he could play his way into a late-round flier!
