TCU recently unveiled its brand-new sports recovery facility. It is the most unique and high-tech building in college football (and collegiate athletes as a whole) with a price tag of $50 million, kind of.
Let’s take a look inside!
Construction got underway on the Simpson Family Restoration and Wellness Center at TCU way back in February of 2024 as part of a much larger project primarily focused on college football. The $50 million donation focused on four key things:
- Renovation of the indoor training facility, including the weight rooms
- Construction of a new Football Performance Center
- Expanded entryway to the TCU football facilities
- Development of the Restoration and Wellness Center
We’re going to focus only on the fourth of four projects.
The brand-new Restoration and Wellness Center totals 10,000 square feet. It officially opened earlier this month for fall sport athletes who are currently on campus for summer workouts.
It’s snowing!
As hot as it is in Fort Worth, Texas, the student-athletes can step inside their new building and immediately flip the season. TCU is the only school in the nation with a dedicated Snow Room.
The Snow Room, which can hold 8-to-10 athletes, stays at sub-freezing temperatures at all hours of the day to assist in the post-practice and workout recovery process. It also features literal snow flurries and the flurries are purple to match the school colors. Pretty cool.
Athletes will feel good at TCU.
Although the Snow Room is by far the coolest amenity, the Restoration and Wellness Center also includes a cryotherapy lounge, hydro massage pods, a sauna, red light therapy, multiple recovery spaces and a hydrotherapy pool. Here’s a look at the initial blueprint:
The cryo lounge features an advanced recovery chair for targeted cold and heat therapy. The hydro massage provides powerful waves of heated water massage to target specific areas of the body.
Take a look inside…
Horned Frogs safety Sebastian Peterson recently posted a behind-the-scenes look at the new facility on TikTok. As cool as it sounds, it looks even cooler.
I’ll be honest. I don’t know if Peterson was supposed to post all of that footage because I have not seen any other videos or even images from inside the building but I am glad he did! And I guess why not?
If I was a prospective college athlete with TCU on my list, that recovery center would be a huge draw.
