A year ago, Maddie Scherr and Hailey Van Lith were battling it out as rivals for opposing SEC women’s hoops squads. This year, they’ll be teammates!
The duo again utilized the transfer portal as a way of starting fresh in a new town. Both landed at TCU where they hope to form one of the more dangerous backcourts in college basketball.
Van Lith played at LSU in 2023-24, teaming up with Angel Reese to take the Tigers to an Elite Eight appearance. While they’d fall to eventual national runner up Iowa, HVL’s talents were on full display throughout the year.

She averaged 11.6 points from her guard position while leading the team in assists. It was her lone season in Baton Rouge following a transfer from Louisville.
At LSU, head coach Kim Mulkey did her best to develop Van Lith into a true point guard. That said, she struggled to fit in with her new squad, leading to another school change at year’s end.
TCU has become her next home!
Maddie Scherr followed suit after spending two seasons at Kentucky where she averaged 10.8 points and 3.9 assists per game. This, coming after spending her first two collegiate seasons across the country at Oregon.

Maddie Scherr made sure to capture every moment she could on her social media outlets, that post with Hailey Van Lith included.
The duo squared off just once last year in SEC play, which ended in a 77-56 LSU win.
Scherr scored seven points while Van Lith notched 15.
After a year as rivals, they’ll now pair up with one goal in mind – a deep NCAA Tournament run in what should be each of their final seasons.
