Team USA is currently in the midst of a disaster showing at the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. Through the first day, the U.S. trailed Europe 5.5-2.5, and things don’t look much better on Saturday morning.

Not only have the Euros extended their lead to 7.5-3.5 with a further match still in progress, but the United States fans have brought a great shame upon their nation.

All week, talk has surrounded how loud and boisterous the crowd would be on Long Island. Not only have the fans not delivered that noise (due in large part to the home team’s poor play), but when they have been loud, they haven’t exactly been creative.

Outside of the odd “U-S-A” or “F-U Rory” chants, the American crowd has been more or less feckless. On Saturday, organizers brought in a ringer to try to fix that.

They brought in a pair of either radio DJs or in-arena hosts to lead the crowd in specific chants. Unfortunately, the crowd either wasn’t able to figure out the chants or was entirely unwilling, leading to awkward silence, messed-up chanting, or just flat-out boos.

So not only has the Ryder Cup been a complete and utter embarrassment for the players on the course, now it appears that the fans are embarrassing the country as well.

In all, the Ryder Cup has been a complete and utter disaster from top to bottom. And it’s hard to envision a clear path to bounce back from this for Team USA.
