The Tennessee basketball team picked up a conference win over SEC rival Texas A&M on Tuesday. The social media team shaded its own fanbase after the fact.
The hoops team’s official X account posted a photo recognizing the unhinged nature of Vol Nation. It came after a tense final few moments of action.
Tennessee entered its most recent matchup at 11-5 and ranked No. 24 in the nation. They were given a home test by the Aggies.
Texas A&M took a double-digit lead early in the first half. The Vols closed the gap to 34-30 at halftime. They then tied the score at the end of regulation to force overtime.
Controversy surrounded that second half finish. The Ags believe they should’ve gotten one last shot to win. A loose ball was awarded to the Vols. Texas A&M challenged but was denied possession.
Tennessee basketball caught a break.

The Vols trailed 71-69 with 13 seconds left. Tennessee freshman Nate Ament was fouled to go to the free throw stripe. He sank his first attempt. He missed the next.
His miss was rebounded by Vols guard Bishop Boswell, who was subsequently fouled. He, too, made his first attempt to tie the game at 71-71. He then missed a go-ahead shot.
A fight for the loose ball ensued. Tennessee appeared to knock the ball away from the grasp of a Texas A&M player and out of play. It was ruled Vols ball. Texas A&M’s coaching challenge failed.
Tennessee kept the ball despite most believing the Aggies deserved it. Texas A&M was not given an opportunity to win the game on the last possession of regulation.
The matchup later went to overtime, and then to double overtime. Tennessee won, 87-82.

Tennessee fans can be passionate about their sports teams. Some might call them unhinged. The social media team recognizes the fervor the group possesses. It played off that emotion after the dramatic win.
The basketball account posted a photo that perfectly encapsulated the moment.
It joked on the fanbase’s tendency to attack AD Danny White when things aren’t going well. He was the target of online attacks this week with the football team striking out on transfer portal player.
You guys need to lay off of Danny White. He gets paid a lot of money to be smarter than everyone else and the new sushi bar where g10 once stood will be one of the best things this town has ever seen

Some don’t believe efforts are being focused on NIL. Fans cited a new entertainment district development project in their reasoning, claiming that it was taking time and money away from recruiting.
He responded publicly to his critics on social media.
I’ve been thinking that the Neyland Entertainment District could win us a national championship. Man, I’ve been thinking about this all wrong. Thank you for your insight! https://t.co/OHYoOOEKK3
