An earthquake in Tennessee could be felt in parts of Georgia. On Saturday morning, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was reported in Tennessee and was felt in several southeastern states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Earthquake scientist Dr. Zhigang Peng explained why so many Southeastern states felt the Tennessee quake.

“This earthquake was located within the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, an area with known higher seismic activity.”

“Another thing to keep in mind is that because the rocks beneath us here in the East Coast are much older and stronger, [earthquakes] actually can be felt at much wider distance,” Dr. Peng said in a February interview with 11Alive. “So even though the activity here in the Southeastern United States is much smaller as compared with the Western United States, whenever there is an earthquake that will be felt at much wider distances.”

Several people on X describe what they felt on X.
