A pair of unruly Texas A&M baseball fans were escorted out of the stands during the second inning of the Aggies’ College World Series matchup vs. Florida.

The duo was seen yelling obscenities towards the Gators dugout, which actually led to a brief pause in the game action – and a potentially costly one for UF.

That distraction came shortly after the start of the contest, which had to be delayed due to unkind weather conditions. The hours-long wait forced fans in attendance to fill the time as best they knew how.

The unfriendly atmosphere continued for the Florida side after first pitch.

With the Aggies threatening in the second inning, chaos erupted near that first-base dugout. Two patrons in TAMU gear were seen shouting at Kevin O’Sullivan before being corralled by security.

All the while, a game was being played on the field.

As everyone tried to figure out what was happening in the crowd, a close play at third base was unfolding. A Texas A&M baserunner was initially ruled safe upon sliding into the bag but replays appeared to show that he’d actually been beaten to the base by a Florida defender.

With the coaching staff potentially distracted by the screaming fans, they missed an opportunity to challenge.

With the call remaining “safe” on the field, the Aggies loaded the bases while still having just one out -rather than possibly having two outs and two on.

They’d later plate that runner from third to take an early 2-0 lead before the inning’s end.

Texas A&M would go onto win the baseball game by one run to advance in the College World Series winner’s bracket.

It was a close battle throughout, and it appeared Florida would overcome the missed challenge opportunity with a two-run ninth-inning home run.

Cade Kurland belted a 1-1 pitch deep to right field that had a chance to leave the park.

Texas A&M’s Jace LaViolette had other plans.

The 6′ 6″ outfielder leapt up and pulled the ball back into the field of play to keep the Gators from taking a late lead.

It’s been a drama-filled College World Series to this point, with Florida rival FSU also landing on the wrong end of controversy. With two outs and a two-run lead over Tennessee in their opener, a potential missed strike three call proved costly.

A Vols hitter appeared to have tried unsuccessfully to check his swing with two strikes and two outs in the ninth inning before an umpire ruled in his favor. The extra chance gave Tennessee new life as they’d go on to score four runs to win, 11-9.

We’ll have to see what the rest of the tournament has in store!
