The trooper was immediately relieved of his duties and was set to face an internal affairs investigation into his behavior.
“The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game. The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will investigate the matter further. No additional information will be released at this time.”
On Thursday, it was reported that one of the South Carolina players, Oscar Adaway III, filed a criminal complaint against the state trooper for assault.

Oscar Adaway III, one of two University of South Carolina athletes who were elbowed by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper during a game at Texas A&M in November, has accused the trooper of assault in a criminal complaint filed Dec. 12, according to the student-athlete’s attorney, B. Keith Jackson. The Brazos County District Attorney is considering whether to move forward with charges, Jackson said.
The Adaway family has been in distress since the incident. And Adaway said he has met with a psychiatrist as he considered what action to take in the wake of the widely publicized confrontation in a stadium tunnel after a South Carolina touchdown. Adaway eventually called the Texas A&M Police to report an assault. They took the report, but have declined, along with the Texas DPS, to provide the trooper’s name.

“The blue wall is a real thing as it relates to protecting their own, in this part of the country more so than others,” Adaway’s attorney Keith Jackson said via a statement. “I do think there’s a good chance they bring charges, only because of the video that was shown across the country that shows there was an assault committed.”
