Texas and Texas A&M each sit atop the SEC standings with two weeks to go in the college football season. The rivals will face off in the final game of the year as it shapes up to be a potential conference title elimination matchup.

Before arriving to that point, however, each squad must take down a league foe this coming Saturday. If they do so, both will enter that final contest at 6-1 in SEC play.

It would provide viewers with one of the best storylines in the final week’s slate. Not much can top a heated showdown between the Aggies and Longhorns with postseason implications on the line!

The paths to the SEC Championship are somewhat clear. Win and you’re in. Lose, and you leave your fate up to league tiebreakers.

The game should mean something significant to all involved, and the eyes of the college football world will undoubtedly be located on Kyle Field when the time comes. Still, there is work to do.

Texas needs to beat a Kentucky squad that took down Ole Miss and hung tough with Georgia. The Aggies need to defeat Auburn. Texas A&M football coach Mike Elko was asked about the potentially monumental matchup against the Longhorns this week.

He tried to indicate that the focus was on the Tigers. That attempt failed miserably!

A Freudian slip led to a social media reaction. He intended to say he was keyed in on Auburn. He accidentally said Texas. It created a buzz online from both Longhorns and Tigers.

Texas fans quickly reacted with the typical “Rent free” responses. Even when trying not to look ahead, Texas A&M can’t stop thinking about the ‘Horns!

As for Auburn fans, they’re hoping the Aggies truly are overlooking their team, who will enter the matchup at 4-6 on the year. The Tigers have been competitive in five of their six losses, falling by 10 points or less. There’s talent on the roster and a head coach on the sidelines that’s proven he can take down the big boys in years past.

Plus, the game will be played in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Crazy things have happened on the Plains – just ask Georgia and Alabama!

This is the definition of a trap game for the Texas A&M football squad. Mike Elko wanted to purvey to reporters that his team is only looking at the task at hand. He failed, and should the Aggies fall, this quote will certainly be referenced by those overlooked Tigers.
