High School football games often lead to seeing some pretty wacky scenarios.
Just last week, a Pennsylvania high school won a playoff game 68-0 while playing with only 11 players, and just 10 on defense. Earlier this season, a coach in West Virginia opted to send his kicker out for a 97-yard field goal attempt. It went about as poorly as you’d expect.
But Thursday’s game between Wakeland and Lone Star, both located in Frisco, Texas, had one of the more insane endings you will ever see to any football game at any level.
You won’t see a more crazy finish to a football game…

Let’s just start with the fact that the game was tied at 59-59 going into overtime. That’s wild enough as is.
But that’s when things got really crazy.
Wakeland entered the game at 5-3, compared to previously undefeated and state-ranked Lone State. The Wolverines got the ball first in overtime but then proceeded to turn it over on their possession.
That meant that all Lone State needed was a field goal to win the game. But they went looking for more. After a couple of short runs, the Rangers ran it again on third down hoping to either score or center the ball for a short, game-winning field goal.
But sophomore quarterback Karece Hoyt fumbled the ball at the 1-yard line. It dropped right into the arms of Wakeland junior Austin Wilson, and Wilson knew what to do from there.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound defensive end took off the other direction for a 99-yard fumble return to win the game for the Wolverines.
The incredible play ended Lone Star’s undefeated start to the season and knocked them from the No. 2 spot in the state rankings.
After the game, Wilson had a message to the haters.
They wrote us off. We ain’t write back✍️ https://t.co/F8FIZCHbh5

Talk your talk, kid. You just became the most popular person in Wakeland High School for at least the next week.
