Texas State Football is experiencing the Streisand Effect in full force after turning off comments/replies on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter. This came after the Texas State Bobcats announced the team had achieved its highest-ever Fall GPA in the history of the football program.
For context, the Florida Gators also set a new football team record this Fall with a cumulative 3.37 GPA with nearly 80% of the Gators squad having a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Gators also made a bowl game this season. Texas State Football came in considerably lower than that…

A 2.8 GPA is just a hair above a B- average. And while this is the highest Fall GPA in the history of the Texas State Bobcats’ football program, and that is something they should be proud of, it’s not exactly an incredible achievement when you consider the average NCAA athlete GPA, across ALL NCAA athletes, is 3.0 for men and 3.3 for women. Meaning that Texas State’s squad’s best-ever average is still falling below the *average* for all of the NCAA.
Now, most of the college football world would never know about Texas State’s record-setting 2.84 GPA had it not been for their social media admin turning off the comments and replies on X and Instagram to the posts about the GPA. In response, people have taken to other posts from Texas State and started commenting things such as “now that the season over them boys better get to studying” and “Nahhh put the comments back on.”
Someone did point out that back in 2019, the Texas Longhorns experienced a similar debacle. They achieved a 2.89 team GPA which was the Longhorns’ highest-ever at the time but the Longhorns have since seen their team GPA soar over 3.00 at times so hopefully Texas State follows a similar trend.
Interestingly, according to US News‘ college admissions profile of Texas State, the university does not evaluate applicants GPAs. Texas State has an 89% acceptance rate with ranges of 19-26 ACT and 980-1190 SAT. But GPA isn’t a factor so it’s entirely plausible GPA is of no importance in San Marcos.
Texas State finished 8-5 on the season with a 30-28 First Responder Bowl win over North Texas.
