The Milwaukee Bucks Just Introduced The NBA’s Most Bizarre In-Game Promotion

Everyone loves a good NBA in-game promotion, right?

For years the Frosty Freeze-Out at Philadelphia 76ers games was the most excitement-packed part of the game for fans in attendance.

Or what the Orlando Magic’s deal with Papa John’s that gives fans in the surrounding area 50 percent off all online orders anytime the Magic win a game?

Getting free or discounted food or merch when your team does something well is an essential part of the live sports experience.

But the Milwaukee Bucks may have taken things to a new level on Monday night.

During their 122-114 victory over the Miami Heat, the Bucks’ in-arena announcer told fans about a new promotion starting this season.

If the Bucks score 95 points before the end of the third quarter, fans in attendance can go to Kwik Trip and use their Kwik Trip rewards card to buy an 18, 24 or 30 pack of Michelob Ultra and they will receive 30 cents off each gallon of gas.

Let’s break down a bit.

For one, scoring 95 points through three quarters isn’t easy. Sure, Milwaukee did it on Monday night. But it’s hard to imagine it’ll happen too often.

But that’s just the start. Somehow the promotion doesn’t actually give fans a discount on the beer. It just encourages them to buy it. And then if they do so, they get 30 cents off a gallon. Which isn’t an insignificant amount!

But wait, there’s more!

Jack Maloney of CBS Sports, who first revealed the promotion, did some extra research.

As it turns out, there aren’t actually any Kwik Trip locations close to the Bucks’ arena. So the promotion becomes even more absurd.

Sure, plenty of fans drive in from the suburbs. But you’d think they’d make it a little more accessible for those in the city.

Nonetheless, it feels like a perfect way to act like you’re rewarding fans without actually giving them anything.

Unless, of course, Milwaukee has some obsession with Michelob Ultra that we don’t know about.
