In the final year of the PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program (PIP), Tiger Woods earned the top spot for $10 million. Tiger leading the field came despite him only making 1 cut last season in just 6 starts.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler finished 2nd on the Player Impact List (PIP) for a respectable $8 million after having a season that was so incredible it could only be compared to Tiger Woods himself. Scottie won 9 times including an Olympic Gold Medal, The Masters, The Players, and the TOUR Championship.

According to a report from SBJ‘s Josh Carpenter, the 2024 PIP results were announced to the players at the end of November but the memo was only now leaked to media with Tiger Woods sitting at #1 on the list. The final top 10 came out to:

  1. Tiger Woods – $10 million
  2. Scottie Scheffler – $8 million
  3. Rory McIlroy – $4.5 million
  4. Xander Schauffele – $4.5 million
  5. Jordan Spieth – $4.5 million
  6. Collin Morikawa – $4.5 million
  7. Shane Lowry – $3.5 million
  8. Justin Thomas – $3.5 million
  9. Tommy Fleetwood – $3.5 million
  10. Wyndham Clark – $3.5 million

If you’re asking yourself how Tiger Woods, who made six stars and only one cut, would top the PIP list then you must first understand what the PIP is… It’s a measure of each individual player’s impact on the PGA Tour itself and in that regard I don’t think there’s anyone would argue that Tiger Woods is anything other than #1.

The PGA Tour uses a combination of Nielsen brand exposure data, Google search data, media/social media mentions, MARC general population awareness, and MARC golf fan awareness to calculate the scores. Ultimately, the data is used to determine which PGA Tour stars draw the most attention.

Despite Scottie Scheffler having the best PGA Tour season in history by anyone non named Tiger Woods, it was still Tiger Woods who garnered the most attention. He is still golf’s biggest star and that is undeniable. Funnily, Scottie’s arrest in Louisville and the charges later being dropped might’ve actually helped his PIP standings in the media mentions category.

This new from Sports Business Journal come son the eve of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy debuting the TGL which premieres Tuesday night on ESPN and ESPN+. The new indoor golf league will provide golf fans with a very welcome mid-week distraction.
