The sports world has produced plenty of unexpected beefs between people who’ve treated the rest of us to some drama. Now, we’ve got a new one on our hands courtesy of Team USA soccer legend Tim Howard, who issued a threat to a contestant on the Netflix show Love Is Blind after he referred to him as a “weirdo.”

You can’t make a list of the best soccer players from the United States without mentioning Tim Howard, who is indisputably the top goalkeeper America has ever produced.

Howard made his MLS debut in 1998 and capped off his career in the league in 2019, and those two stints sandwiched a 13-year run in the Premier League where he patrolled the net for Manchester United and Everton.

The man who was known as the “Secretary of Defense” also played 121 games for the United States men’s national team, and he was a major reason they advanced to the Round of 16 in the World Cup in 2010 and 2014.

Howard retired in 2019 before coming back for a short spell the following year with a USL team he owned a stake in. The 46-year-old is currently keeping busy by cohosting the Unfiltered Soccer podcast with former Team USA superstar Landon Donovan, and that platform has fueled a feud he’s found himself involved with courtesy of a contestant on a dating show on Netflix.

Why is Tim Howard fighting with a contestant on Love is Blind?

It’s been six years since Netflix found itself with a bit of a hit on its hands with Love is Blind, the dating show where participants are confined to pods that prevent them from actually getting a look at a potential romantic partner before deciding to pursue a relationship.

The ongoing tenth season features a participant named Alex Henderson, who was known as Alec Ferrell when he was a goaltender for the soccer team at Wake Forest before Minnesota United selected him with the 23rd overall pick in the second round of the MLS Draft in 2017.

Henderson was released just a few months after he was scooped up due to a knee injury, and it appears he pivoted to a career in finance. However, he found himself talking about his past with Ashley Carpenter, the Love is Blind contestant he got engaged to, during an episode where she asked him if he’d met Howard before he confirmed he had while calling him “a weirdo.”

Well, it turns out Howard’s daughters are fans of the show, and he revealed they brought that comment to his attention during a recent episode of Unfiltered Soccer.

Howard seemed to imply he had some dirt on Henderson (who also said David Beckham was “not even good” during the same conversation) that he was more than happy to share if he didn’t atone, saying:

“I know you’re a fan, and I have this on good authority. So all I’ll say is, we can make everything right with the world, and you just issue a public apology on whatever platform you’re on.”

You can issue a public apology and I’ll accept it in advance. If not, then I’ll have more things to say about you. So we’ll leave it there.”

I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out.
