At one point in his college football career, TJ Finley was considered a potential big-time NFL Draft prospect. Now, the Ponchatoula, Louisiana native is in search of his sixth school in as many years after entering the transfer portal for the fifth time in his career on Friday.

Finley, 23, was recently suspended indefinitely by Tulane Green Wave head coach Jon Sumrall amid charges connected to an alleged stolen car. Finley, through his legal counsel, claimed that he was the victim of a Facebook Marketplace scam. He stated that he purchased the vehicle off the marketplace and was presented with what he believed was a valid bill of sale and registration.

TJ Finley Makes Fifth Trip Into Transfer Portal After Insane College Career Path

A former three-star recruit in the class of 2020, Finley began his career at LSU where he went 2-3 in five starts and passed for 941 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. He then transferred to Auburn, where he went 0-3 with 827 yards, six touchdowns and one pick. He remained with the Tigers in 2022 and went 2-1 but put up worse numbers, throwing for just 431 yards with one TD and two interceptions.

Following his difficult 2022 campaign, Finley transferred to Texas State, where he found a modicum of success. Finley went 8-5 with the Bobcats as the full-time starter, throwing for 3,439 yards, 24 TDs and eight interceptions.

But wait, there’s more! Finley, not content at Texas State, then left to Western Kentucky, where he made just three starts, going 2-1 with 491 yards, one touchdown and two picks. As per the rules, he bounced from WKU after one year, finding a home with the Green Wave. Or so he thought.

Finley lasted just four months in New Orleans before the stolen vehicle charges. Now he’s on the move agAIN. Whether or not another college program is willing to take him in, however, remains to be seen.
