As women’s college basketball continues to see an astronomical rise in popularity, Duke is in position to make some noise with the addition of Toby Fournier. She threw down a dunk in practice that would blow the roof off of Cameron Indoor Stadium if the true freshman forward was to throw it down during a game.

Stay tuned because the Blue Devils are going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Toby Fournier was a five-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024. The 6-foot-2 Toronto-native ranked as the No. 10 player in the nation and a top-five player at her position. It’s not hard to see why!

Even though Fournier is at her best as a defender on the wing and has yet to even play an official game, she is already the best dunker in women’s basketball on any level— high school, college or pro. Her high school highlight tapes are a great reflection of the high-flying, shot-blocking, rim-rattling phenom.

Only eight women’s college basketball players have jammed during a Division I game:

  • Brittney Griner, Baylor — 18 dunks
  • Candace Parker, Tennessee — 7 dunks
  • Michelle Snow, Tennessee — 3 dunks
  • Fran Belibi, Stanford — 3 dunks
  • Georgeann Wells, West Virginia — 2 dunks
  • Charlotte Smith, North Carolina — 1 dunk
  • Sancho Lyttle, Houston — 1 dunk
  • Sylvia Fowles, LSU — 1 dunk

All 36 dunks were a huge deal. Crowds went bananas.

Fournier is going to be the ninth player in history to throw down in a game. It is a matter of when, not if, and how many. There is also a high probability that Duke will be responsible for the first-ever alley-oop dunk in women’s hoops history. The Blue Devils have been working on the play during practice.

Fifth-year senior point guard Vanessa de Jesus kissed an assist off of the glass earlier this week that set up her new teammate perfectly for the dunk. Fournier followed close behind and slammed it home!

Imagine if Duke was able to pull that off during, say, the fourth quarter of a single-digit game against North Carolina. The Cameron Crazies would go bonkers. Toby Fournier is going to be a household name!
