Todd Monken was not in attendance for his debut coaches’ photo at the annual NFL meeting this week in Arizona. He made sure, however, to be present for an opportunity to day-drink 24 hours later.
Jay Glazer posted a video to social media highlighting a yearly tradition, which dates back nearly two decades. Monken was seen chatting with fellow league members while sipping on a frosty beverage.
He prioritized boozing while putting his league itinerary on the backburner!

The annual picture typically captures all 32 NFL head coaches. In many cases, it goes viral on social media.
Monken was the talking point this time around due to his notable absence. He provided reasoning after the fact.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com shared his story on Tuesday. Ironically, his trip to the barber shop was in direct preparation for the upcoming photo.
Monken had the time of the snapshot scheduled for noon. He skipped the meeting that preceded in order to accommodate the trim. When he returned, he was informed that the photo had already been taken.
The meeting that Monken skipped ended early. As a result, the itinerary moved up. Monken was 20 minutes late. He made sure not to repeat past mistakes the following day.
Jay Glazer hosted his annual day-drinking meetup.
One of my favorite days of the year!!! Our 18th annual NFL Head Coaches day-drinking day at the NFL Owners Meeting. I started this with Mike Tomlin 18 years ago (yes, we raised a glass to him) to get the head coach fraternity to bond together, bounce things off each other, ask… pic.twitter.com/V7HH8r2dpQ

The NFL media personality started the tradition 18 years prior with Mike Tomlin. He’s kept it going since.
This year, 28 of the league’s 32 coaches showed, as did Michael Phelps and Mark Kerr. Monken was right on time, clean-cut and all.

Todd Monken ditched a Monday morning meeting during his first head coaches’ event with the league. It cost him.
He made sure not to miss out on Tuesday’s shenanigans. Free beer was too good to pass up! Glazer says Rams coach Sean McVay picked up the tab.
The annual NFL meeting is set to wrap up Tuesday. With his time in Arizona now behind him, Monken will look ahead to his debut season as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
